Born and raised in Sogam, Lolab, he completed his foundational schooling at Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School Sogam before pursuing his MBBS as a gold medalist from SKIMS, Srinagar. In 2010, he etched his name in history by securing All India Rank 1 (AIR 1) in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, becoming the first-ever Kashmiri to top the prestigious exam and inspiring an entire generation of civil service aspirants across the region. Over his illustrious administrative career, he has held several key leadership positions, including serving as the Director of School Education, Kashmir (DSEK). He also holds a Master's degree in Public Administration (MPA) from the Harvard Kennedy School as a Fulbright Fellow. ​Aazad Ahmad Wani is one of the most distinguished civil servants originating from the Lolab Valley. Over a career spanning more than three decades in public administration and governance, he rose through the ranks of the Jammu & Kashmir civil services, ultimately reaching the apex Super Time Scale rank of Director General in the Finance Department. ​Before his transition into public administration, Mr. Wani began his professional journey in academia as a dedicated lecturer, shaping young minds and fostering academic excellence.
